(VIDEO) Senator John McCain DISSES Long Island!

Post Type

Arizona Sen. John McCain took a poke at Long Island during a talk about the treatment of enemy combatants.  Even though I was born and raised on Long Island, I thought this was a little funny.  Only because McCain is getting older and he may be a bit senile, so I’d cut him a break.  Find out exactly what he said and the return fire from Chuck Schumer…

At about the 6:11:46 mark in the C-SPAN Senate floor footage below, you will hear John McCain blatantly diss Long Island:

MR. McCAIN: …ISN’T IT TRUE THAT JUSTICE O’CONNOR WAS SPECIFICALLY REFERRING TO A CASE OF A PERSON WHO WAS CAPTURED ON LONG ISLAND? LAST I CHECKED, LONG ISLAND WAS PART — ALBEIT SOMETIMES REGRETTABLY — PART OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

What was that about?! Don’t worry Long Islanders, Chuck Schumer has your back and now John McCain will think twice before coming sideways at one of the most beautiful places to live in the country.  Not to mention Long Island is one of the most expensive places to live in the United States so think of all the hard earned tax dollars we send to Washington to pay good old McCains paycheck!

Although Sen. Schumer was born in Brooklyn, but he was quick to stand up for his neighbors.  He tweeted:

“@SenJohnMcCain – All of America saw how heroic Long Islanders were on 9/11. #LongIsland deserves an apology.”

Soon after, McCain returned to the Senate floor and said Long Island was “wonderful” and attempted at a half-assed apology. McCain said:

“I’m sorry there’s at least one of my colleagues that can’t take a joke, and so I apologize if I offended him and hope that someday he will have a sense of humor.”

That wasn’t good enough for Schumer, so he added:

“NYers can take a joke. But if @SenJohnMcCain wants to mock parts of America, stick to Arizona.”

Long Island Rep. Steve Israel, who lives in Suffolk Country  stated:

“If John McCain had ever had a Long Island bagel, he wouldn’t be saying that. I’m going to send some over and then ask him for an update on his views.”

Schumer later said, according to the AP:

“I don’t think he meant it to be malicious, but I didn’t want to let it go unanswered.”
